Next, take the 710 Freeway to the end at the Long Beach Cruise Port. Uber prices can vary but expect to pay about USD 35+ if traveling from LAX to the Long Beach Cruise terminal. While you’ll need a hotel stay flying a day earlier, you won’t be at risk of missing your cruise. We have taken the short flight from Vancouver many times to Los Angeles to take a winter-break cruise. Our latest was a cruise on the Discovery Princess in January with Karen’s 81-year-old mum.

Channel depth (53 ft / 16 m) allows access to the world's largest container ships, tankers and bulk cargo carriers. The port has a total of 23 cargo terminals (270 deepwater berths), 9 container terminals (with 77 gantry cranes) and on-site railway system (total length 182 km / 113 mi). In 2012 was completed a dredging project for deepening the main shipping channel to the current 16 m (53 ft).

There are plenty of spots and reservations are not required. Rates are $20 per day for regular vehicles, $40 for oversized vehicles. So for a week-long cruise, expect to pay about $140 for parking. We are sailing out of that Port next week (Bliss) so I am hoping it will be better. Based upon the scheduled posted above, it appears that the Bliss is the only ship at Port that day so I would imagine no shuttle would be necessary (one would hope). There are several hotels or accommodations near the Long Beach Cruise Port. As mentioned earlier, I would recommend flying in the day before your cruise just to be safe. Converted to a hotel, accommodation, and tours were available until the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020.

The ships dock at two Los Angeles cruise ports – Port of Los Angeles (San Pedro) and Port of Long Beach. More popular Los Angeles cruise port is the Word Cruise Center at San Pedro. July 2020 was Port Long Beach's ever-busiest month (in its 109-year history) with moved total 753,081 TEUs and 21,1% increased trade (over July 2019). Imports increased 20,3% (376,807 TEUs), exports 24,1% (138,602 TEUs), empty containers 20,8% (237,672 TEUs).

Affordable hotels and cheap motels can be found not far from the Port of LA in San Pedro. Alternative is a stay near LAX Airport with free airport shuttle, Hollywood, beachfront Santa Monica Beach,Redondo Beach or in a hotel near Disneyland California amusementpark in Anaheim. When sailing for the Port of Los Angeles, your options are somewhat limited for parking.

With a major working port on one side and residential neighborhoods on the other, there isn’t a lot of space for independent parking lots like at other ports around the country. Debate continued until 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought a sudden halt to cruise ship operations and further development of the Outer Harbor was tabled for two years. APL responded by building a new $4.3 million terminal on the eight-acre site of the former one. The state-of-the-art buildings opened in 1950 and included the largest passenger/cargo terminal in the harbor. That same year, the Los Angeles Steamship Co. was founded, initially to offer passenger cruises from LA to San Francisco on its ships, the Yale and the Harvard, based at Berth 155. In 1922, the company began passenger service to Honolulu on its City of Los Angeles steamship.

A spectators gallery was built on the upper level, along with two vehicle bridges up from ground level. The Berth 93 structure was remodeled and expanded in 2002. Thanks for your review of the Port for the City of Los Angeles. The port is the worst excuse for a large city like Los Angeles and for the Federal authorities that manage the immigration and customs process. The city needs to put some money into this port facility and upgrade to modern standards.

Los Angeles is a popular cruise port for the millions of Americans living within a few hours’ drive or a short flight from L.A. It’s also favored by anyone living on the West Coast (including Canadians like us!). In 2017, Port Long Beach reported a record year for its cargo shipping volumes, handling 7,54+ million TEUs (11% increase over 2016's 6,775171M TEUs).
